June is over

July 1st, 2009

Well, I can’t believe that June has been and gone again already!  It’s been a great month but sooooooooooo busy here at Sealyham.  We’ve had groups from all over England and some from Pembrokeshire as well.

The month started with Ardleigh Green School from Hornchurch and St. Mary’s School Henley (old and valued customers) being joined by a new school, Burghfield St. Mary’s.  Glorious weather and lots of fun had by everyone.

Then another of our favourite groups, The Downs Federation from Newbury in Berkshire. These are a group of small village schools who join together for a week of outdoor activity, giving the Year 6 children a chance to get to know each other before heading off to secondary school in September.

The following week saw north meeting south, with Myrtle Park School from Bingley in Yorkshire, Hacton School from Essex and North Bridge House School from Central London joining together. As well as our normal activity programme Hacton School spent an afternoon visiting the historic city of St. David’s and Myrtle Park School spent a cold and windy evening exploring the rock pools of Broadhaven beach.  Having gone with great expectations of department stores and McDonalds, it didn’t take the Hacton children long to realise that St. David’s is in fact the smallest city in Britain and they had seen most of it within 20 minutes of arriving!

Last week we were visited by yet another of our oldest customers from Hornchurch in Essex – Nelmes Primary School – along with a new group from Camberley – Mytchett Primary School.  After the presentation and disco on the last night we experienced the most amazing thunder and lightening storm we have seen in Pembrokeshire for quite some time.  The teachers and instructors sat up until late watching and listening but most of the children amazingly slept through it!

And now as we move from June in to July we have Elmlea Junior School from Bristol staying here along with Listowel Youth Group who have travelled across the water from Co. Kerry in Ireland.  We are not quite having the heatwave that most of the UK is experiencing but it’s hot and sunny and everyone is very happy!

We have also had some local schools taking part in some non-residential activity days over the last month.  Ysgol Bro Ingli, Fenton Junior School and Spittal School have all brought children here for their end of term “treat”.  All I can say is “sorry” to the Mums who have had to deal with the washing!  We hope to see all you Pembrokeshire children back here in the summer holidays taking part in our Adventure Day programme.

Milford Haven and Johnston Primary Schools

May 1st, 2009

Well, it’s the end of another week and 80 very tired but very happy children are about to leave us.  Fortunately they don’t have far to go home.

It’s been a hectic week and the weather hasn’t been very kind, but the children just got stuck in and had a go at everything.  I must apologise to all you mums for the amount of Sealyham mud the children are taking home with them!

Many of the children have enjoyed themselves so much that they want to come back and do some of the activities again in half term.  The programme will be available any time now on the Adventure Days page of our website.  Strange, but most of the instructors have asked for that week off……….. Can’t think why!

Next week we have another two local schools coming in – St. Mark’s from Merlin’s Bridge and Ysgol Glan Cleddau – along with Bristol Steiner School.  I’m going to find the instrutors now to get a little sun dance organised.

Easter Holidays

April 16th, 2009

Brecon High School went home on Saturday morning for a well deserved rest.  Good job Mr. Chilvers has another week to rest the old bones before going back to school!  But I think all will agree it was another highly successful week.  (Did you know, Brecon High School have been coming to Sealyham every year since 1994?!)

This week we have been running our Adventure Day programme which has seen lots of local children take part in our daily programme of outdoor fun.  What better way to pass the holidays than sailing on our local lake, or playing at tarzan high up in the trees on our ropes course.  We’ll be running the programme again during the Whitsun half term and again during the summer holidays.  Watch this space for news of the daily programme and how to book……..

Brecon High School

April 8th, 2009

The students from Brecon have been with us since Sunday and are having a great week.

The Year 7 groups have been coasteering, climbing, surfing, sailing and lots more.  The sixth form group have been doing the same, but BIGGER and BETTER.

We have a rough night last night and the evening activities all went ahead in spite of the rain and high winds.  But this morning the sun is shining and it’s a BEAUTIFUL day.  Mr. Chilvers is sunbathing by the kayaking lake as this is written!

April 2009

April 7th, 2009
The 2009 season is now under way and we have already worked with groups from St. David’s Catholic Sixth Form College, Westbourne School – Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taff Detached Youth Work Team, Sir Thomas Picton School – Haverfordwest and Seaford College CCF

Our instructional team are all in place – and a fine bunch they are too!  Lots of familiar old faces from the last couple of seasons and a sprinkling of lively new guys and girls.

This year we will be introducing Canadian Canoeing to the schools programme and you’ll find a few new obstacles on our Assault Course and some changes to the High Ropes Course.  The new members of our team will no doubt be bringing their own different and individual styles to all of our activities.  One thing you can guarantee though……the Trim Trail will stay just as muddy and exciting as ever!

If you are looking for an activity break for a school or youth group this summer, please contact us as we still have some availability at discounted prices.
